The NorthStar Knights coaching staff has some incredible stories and testimonies to share. Hear how they came to faith in Christ, how they live it out with their teams, and how you can take inspiration from what they have done back into your workplace.

John Olver (JO)

Coach Olver joins FCA Hockey Prep with 35+ years of professional, college and junior coaching experience. After playing college hockey at Michigan, JO started his coaching career in 1984, and has spent time behind the bench and as a general manager in the AHL, ECHL, WCHL, NCAA, BCHL, and WSHL. JO looks at his coaching career in three stages: 16 years without God, 15 years as a Christian, and the past 5 years as a sold-out believer with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. JO’s passion is to help our players become the best versions of themselves they can be, and that starts by having a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior.

Tim Jackman

Tim Jackman is a 9 year NHL veteran and new Assistant Coach with the Northstar Christian Academy Knights in Alexandria, MN. Tim grew up in North Dakota, played for hockey at the University of Minnesota Mankato, and then turned pro shortly thereafter. Tim played for multiple teams over his career, including most notably the Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks. Tim loves the Lord and is passionate about encouraging others in their walk with God. He has a wonderful wife, Chelsea, and two children.

Gary Steffes

Gary has played Professional hockey for 7 of the last 8 years at the ECHL and AHL levels. Gary won two ECHL championships with the Allen Americans in 2015 and 2016, while also serving as one of the Americans captains for each of his 3 seasons with the team. The Americans retired Gary’s jersey #12 in November 2017. Gary loves Jesus Christ, and now works full time as the Campus Director for FCA Hockey.
